The concrete surface retarder is a water-based, paste-type deactivator designed for creating exposed aggregate finishes on horizontal or vertical concrete surfaces. When applied to the formwork, it temporarily delays the surface setting of concrete, allowing easy removal of the surface mortar after curing. This process reveals clean, decorative aggregate and ensures excellent bonding for precast elements or in-situ concrete joints.
Designed for precast panels, bridge joints, permeable pavements, and decorative concrete.
Product Introduction
Water-Based & Eco-Friendly: Safe to use, non-toxic, and VOC-free formulation.
Exposed Aggregate Retarder: Delivers consistent exposed finishes without acid washing or mechanical chipping.
Controlled Depth Etching: Adjustable etching depth up to 10 mm for bonding or architectural finishes.
No Impact on Strength: Does not compromise compressive strength or steel reinforcement bond.
Wide Compatibility: Suitable for use with steel, wood, or bamboo formwork.
Effective Under Heat or Steam Curing: Works even under high-temperature or precast plant conditions.
Labor-Saving: Eliminates mechanical roughening, reducing labor and equipment cost.

Product Usage
Precast Concrete Panels & Modular Connections
Bridge Deck Joints & Panel Interfaces
Permeable Concrete Pavements with Exposed Aggregate
Architectural Finishes in Vertical or Sloped Elements
Steam-Cured or Accelerated-Cured Components
Formwork Preparation
Clean the form surface thoroughly to remove all oil, dust, or release agents. If necessary, use cement slurry to clean stubborn stains.
Apply Surface Retarder
Using a brush or roller, apply a uniform coat of the surface deactivator to the areas where an exposed aggregate finish is desired.
Concrete Pouring & Curing
Pour and compact the concrete as usual. Allow the concrete to gain sufficient internal strength.
Demolding
Remove the formwork when the concrete meets strength requirements. Demolding time should not exceed 7 days.
High-Pressure Water Cleaning
Immediately after demolding, use a high-pressure water jet (6–8 MPa) to wash off the softened surface mortar and expose the aggregate. Keep the water jet within 50 cm of the surface.
Typical Dosage: 0.2–0.5 kg/m²
Determine final dosage through site trials based on factors such as concrete grade, curing temperature, formwork type, and desired etching depth.
Clean formwork is essential for uniform etching.
Thicker application yields deeper aggregate exposure.
Delayed cleaning may reduce etching efficiency.
Do not leave retarder residue on concrete surface after washing.
Always conduct a site trial to adjust application thickness and demolding time for best results.
