Project Overview

The Jingzhou Yangtze River Bridge is a key crossing on the G55 Erguang Expressway, carrying long-distance and regional traffic across the Yangtze River.
To maintain traffic safety and minimize disruption, an expansion joint repair project was carried out using rapid-setting concrete under a fast-track maintenance schedule.

Project Background

Expansion joints on expressway bridges are subjected to heavy traffic loads, temperature movement, and continuous exposure to water.
Over time, deterioration at joint edges can lead to ride discomfort and increased maintenance risk, making timely repair essential—often within very limited closure windows.

For this project, conventional repair materials were not suitable due to strict reopening requirements. A rapid-setting repair solution was therefore selected.

Repair Solution

Rapid-setting concrete was applied in the expansion joint repair areas to achieve:

• Fast strength development for early traffic reopening

• Reliable bonding at joint edges

• Stable volume behavior to reduce shrinkage-related cracking

• Durability under repeated traffic loading

The material was well suited for night-time construction and fast-track maintenance on a major expressway bridge.
